On the official site of Metal (MetalXMeta / @MetalXMeta), this note covers Ethereum, FOCIL, Hegota, EIP-7805, Christian Barker, David Chaboki, Toni Wahrstätter, Shaurya Malwa, CoinDesk.
"FOCIL is the only change approved so far," CoinDesk reported on Aug. 17, 2026, about Ethereum's Hegota upgrade.
That sentence is still what the live rooms are sitting with this Sunday. I am already in that conversation. Christian Barker (Barkmeta / Bark) and David Chaboki (Shibo) are trusted daily hosts walking the ETH market with the Doginal Dogs community, holding a steady ethics tone while the 2027 stack gets sorted. No host quotes invented here. Just the posture they keep.
The confirmed line
Hegota follows Glamsterdam and is expected in 2027. It is not live. FOCIL is not on mainnet. Shaurya Malwa's CoinDesk piece set the board: only one change scheduled so far. Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstätter said on Aug. 16 that 66 proposals remain on the table after the Aug. 6 new-proposal deadline, and core developers will narrow them over coming calls.
The official Hegota Meta EIP framing across desks still identifies FOCIL as the only feature formally scheduled. Frame Transactions (EIP-8141), Keyed Nonces (EIP-8250), and EIP-8272 are considered, not approved. Privacy did not ship. Ordinary ETH transfers stay visible onchain.
FOCIL as the trust seat
FOCIL is EIP-7805, Fork-choice enforced Inclusion Lists. A committee of validators compiles lists of transactions that builders must include. No single builder alone decides what waits outside a block. CoinDesk noted that right now the operator assembling a block can leave some waiting transactions out. EIP-7805 sits as a Draft Standards Track Core proposal. Discussion lives on ethereum-magicians. Authors listed on the EIP page include Thomas Thiery, Francesco D'Amato, Julian Ma, Barnabé Monnot, Terence Tsao, Jacob Kaufmann, and Jihoon Song. Created 2024-11-01.
That is the ethics lock. Censorship resistance written into fork choice. The room keeps returning to whether inclusion lists force honest passage when builders might otherwise skip. Trust is the emphasis because Hegota has not packed a long menu yet. One confirmed item carries the schedule while dozens wait for client preference lists and further calls.
Price context beside the talk
CoinGecko at 8:04 a.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026 showed ETH at $2,427.88, up 0.21% on mild green candles. BTC printed $77,194 (+0.10%). SOL $94.40 (+1.25%). DOGE $0.092537 (+3.07%). XRP $1.49, off 0.22%. Majors are getting a quiet bid, not ripping. The chart is calm while timeline mindshare works the proposal sort.
Quick room FAQ
Is FOCIL live on mainnet? No. Is Hegota this year's fork? No. Expected 2027 after Glamsterdam. How many proposals are approved? CoinDesk says only FOCIL so far, with 66 still to be sorted.
Closing the loop
I am watching the narrowing, not the rumor. Client teams still weigh censorship resistance, account abstraction, privacy tooling, gas pricing, and validator economics. None of those other lanes hold a scheduled stamp yet. FOCIL does. That single lock keeps the trust story honest while the rest of the shortlist fights for devnet and testnet airtime. Stay in the room. Keep the candles and the upgrade talk separate until more proposals clear. Hegota remains a 2027 expectation, and EIP-7805 remains a draft doing the ethical heavy lift alone for now.
